Irons in the Fire

I’ve come to the realization that there’s a difference between ambition and over-doing it. With the best of intentions, I planned to write a novella for Jackie and Volt this November during NaNoWriMo. However, I’m within 24,000 words of completing the first draft of Beta Test. Attempting two works-in-progress simultaneously isn’t just a headache. It’s a recipe for disaster for me as a writer. Neither work benefits from my focus being divided.

Add to this that somebody (me!) decided on an early December release date for Into the Riot, and I know I’ve spread myself too thin.  I can’t wait for you to read Razor’s story, by the way!

To say the least, I’m feeling exceptionally guilty about shifting my focus from NaNoWriMo to my existing work-in-progress, but I have to be realistic about things. Better to focus on releasing a quality book than writing a specific number of words within a time frame set by someone else. I wish all my writer friends much luck with their NaNoWriMo goals. If I wrap Beta Test up before the end of the month, we’ll see if I can get to maybe 25,000 words for Starting the Riot. Also, if you’re curious about what’s on my docket for 2019, make sure you’ve signed up for my newsletter. The November issue will be out soon, and it will have the details on 2019!
